Portraits in Linoprint

Studying portraiture as the subject of linoprinting has been a very interesting journey. Exploring the defining features of someones facial characteristics, and capturing a likeness using only marks has been a fascinating task. Using only a handful of reductions of colours, if not less, with the mark-making technique of lino-cut printing restricting the ability to create gradients and tones of colour, creating a contour map of the face and emphasizing recognisable features was key to giving the image life and personality.
